Serving Carmel & Shelbyville, IN
I feel so very blessed to be an orthodontist. It is a great career. It is very gratifying to go to work each day to provide orthodontic care for my patients and to help them feel better about their smiles and themselves. It is a wonderful feeling to see the reaction of my patients and their parents at the completion of orthodontic treatment. They are so happy and proud of the results of all the effort they made to accomplish a successful achievement.
None of this would be possible without such a talented team. Many have been with me for more than 15 years, and one has been with me for over 20 years! All of my team members are dedicated to serve our patients and make them feel special. Each brings an exemplary attitude and unique talent to work each day. We all work together well to make our patients smile.
I love the challenge and uniqueness that each presents. Our goal is to make each moment of each appointment as pleasant as possible. Our purpose is to make the entire orthodontic experience comfortable, positive, and rewarding for all of our patients.
Education and experience
I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Indiana University School of Dentistry, and completed my orthodontic residency at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, department of orthodontics in 1986.
The technological advancements in orthodontics are improving the quality and efficiency of treatment, reducing the duration of treatment in many instances, and decreasing the discomfort often associated with care. In order to keep up with these advancements, I regularly continue my education on the local, state, and national levels.
In addition, I have been a part-time faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics at the Indiana University School of Dentistry for the past 17 years. During this time, I have supervised first- and second-year residents during their training. I am currently teaching a course on orthodontic finishing to the second-year residents and instructing them on the requirements for submission of cases to the American Board of Orthodontics.

Outside the office
I was raised on a farm near a small town in north-central Indiana called Fairmount. My father was a grain farmer and I worked for him while growing up. I learned a lot from my father and he has been a great source of inspiration in my life.
I now reside in Carmel and have been living here since 1986 with my wife Connie, who is a professor in the education department at Franklin College. We have six adult children and two grandchildren, as well as a Portuguese Water Dog named Tellie. We very much enjoy our family time. Connie and I love to travel, and now that we are empty nesters, we can get away more easily. We both enjoy swimming, biking, running, water skiing, and snow skiing.
In the community
I have been blessed immensely; to those whom much is given, much is expected. It makes me feel good to give back to my community and to others. I volunteer in my church as the secretary of the Christian Education Committee, provide pro bono orthodontic care to several children from Shepherd Community Center, and support local charities, youth groups, and school-related extra-curricular activities.Back to Top
