Meet Dr. Rigsbee

Serving Carmel and Shelbyville, IN

I feel so very blessed to be an orthodontist. It is a great career. It is very gratifying to go to work each day to provide orthodontic care for our patients and to help them feel better about their smiles and themselves. It is a wonderful feeling to see the reaction of our patients and their parents at the completion of orthodontic treatment. They are so happy and proud of the results due to their efforts to accomplish a successful outcome.

None of this would be possible without a talented team. Many have been with me for more than 15 years, and some have been with me for more than 20 years! All of my team members are dedicated to serve our patients and make them feel special. Each brings an exemplary attitude and unique talent to work each day. We all work together well to make our patients smile.

I love the challenge and uniqueness that each of our patients present. Our goal is to make each moment of every appointment as pleasant as possible. Our aim is to make the entire orthodontic experience comfortable, positive, and rewarding for all our patients.

Education and Experience

I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Indiana University School of Dentistry and completed my orthodontic residency at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry’s department of orthodontics, in 1986.

Technological advances in orthodontics are improving the quality and efficiency of treatment, reducing the duration of treatment in many instances, and decreasing the discomfort often associated with care. In order to keep up with these changes, I regularly continue my education on the local, state, and national levels.

In addition, I have been a part-time faculty member in the department of orthodontics at the Indiana University School of Dentistry since 1997. During this time, I have supervised first- and second-year residents during their training. I teach a course on orthodontic finishing for second-year residents and instruct them on the requirements for submission of cases to the American Board of Orthodontics.

Outside the Office

A native Hoosier, I was raised in rural north-central Indiana, Fairmount. My father was a grain farmer and I worked for him until I left for college. My parents have remained a great source of inspiration.

I have resided in Carmel since 1986. Connie, my wife, is a teacher at Hamilton Southeastern High School. We have six adult children, seven grandchildren, and a Portuguese water dog. We very much enjoy our family time, and love to travel. Now that we are empty nesters, we can get away more easily. We also enjoy swimming, biking, running, water skiing, and snow skiing.

In the Community

I have been blessed immensely; to those whom much is given, much is expected. It makes me feel good to give back to my community and to others. We provide pro bono orthodontic care to several children each year from Shepherd Community Center, and support local charities, youth groups, and school-related extra-curricular activities.
